Discover more in our FAQ
How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?
We roast in small batches in Fort Lauderdale and ship within days of roasting, not weeks. Every bag carries its roast date.
Coffee is at its best between five days and four weeks after roasting. You'll receive it inside that window.
How should I store it, and how long does it last?
Keep the bag sealed, at room temperature, away from light and heat. The pouch is designed to protect the coffee — it works better than any jar.
Don't refrigerate or freeze it. Coffee absorbs the smells around it and condensation ruins the beans.
Open bags are at their best within three to four weeks.
What does an 86.5 SCA score mean?
It's a cupping score on the Specialty Coffee Association's 100-point scale. Anything at 80 or above is classified as specialty coffee; most coffee sold in supermarkets would score well below that.
At 86.5, this Yellow Caturra sits comfortably in the range where the cup is clean, sweet and distinctly expressive of where it was grown.
Is the coffee whole bean or ground?
Whole bean. Grinding right before you brew is the single biggest difference between good coffee and great coffee at home — ground coffee loses most of its aroma within thirty minutes.
If you don't have a grinder yet, a $30 burr grinder will do more for your cup than any machine upgrade.
